The discovery of the microbiome is simply mind-blowing. Over time, it will dramatically change the way we think of illness and therefore medicine. We will have to re-think fundamental concepts about life and its evolution. It is rapidly moving from the fringes to main stream. The latest issue of the Economist has an article that seems to show a link between the hardening of arteries and an intestinal bacteria coping with the ingestion of meat.
